In 2019, the Government of India passed the Citizenship Amendment Act, triggering a powerful response from working-class Muslim women in Delhi. Land of My Dreams follows their inspiring journey as they gather in Shaheen Bagh and initiate a nonviolent sit-in against the act, which they see as discriminatory towards Muslims. Despite facing uncertainty and fear, these women sustain their peaceful protest for over a hundred days, igniting a nationwide pro-democracy movement and becoming a symbol of resistance against the ruling BJP government. Through the lens of a Muslim woman filmmaker, this insightful film challenges prevalent notions of belonging, patriotism and identity in India. It explores the shared human experiences of exclusion, polarization and repression, while showcasing the strength and resilience of the women of Shaheen Bagh. Their story provides a powerful precedent for a new form of public dissent in modern India.
