Rachel Lears (Knock Down the House) returns to Hot Docs with an urgent coming-of-age story about four young American leaders and women of colour—congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; Varshini Prakash, executive director of the Sunrise Movement; Alexandra Rojas, executive director of Justice Democrats; and Rhiana Gunn-Wright, climate policy director at the Roosevelt Institute. All four play key roles in championing the Green New Deal in the United States. For over three years, Lears is embedded with these young, visionary leaders, who take their fight against the climate crisis to the halls of Congress. As these women face victories and defeats with boldness and ambition, they also grapple with personal challenges in the face of the old political guard and corporate interests. It is comforting to know that these women are positioning themselves to be the next generation of leaders. Heather Haynes
