Paul is a self-described simp (a man whose excessive attention towards a love interest is not reciprocated) who has found comfort and a means to address his mental health challenges by doing domestic chores for various dominating mistresses. Online, Paul documents his life with the same exacting detail with which he cleans floors and washes windows, employing social media to motivate his self-improvement. The “Cleaning to Save My Life” mantra he’s sent forth into the virtual world allows others to engage with him on his terms. Non-intrusive but intimate cinematography provides a point of view that’s entirely different from Paul’s reels, in a way that doesn’t sensationalize a sensitive subject but rather widens the frame. In contrast to the brief vertical bursts of content that infest our devices, longer, static takes from a distance give breathing room to a complex individual and his unconventional efforts not to be alone, in the best way he knows how.
