Within the decaying walls of Holloway Prison in central London, six women return to a space that once confined them. Over the course of five days, they embark on a deeply cathartic journey that invites introspection and healing. Each woman shares her unique experiences, attitudes and hopes for the future as they gather in a women’s circle to speak candidly of how they came to be imprisoned, thus exposing the systemic failures and entrenched cycles of abuse and trauma that contributed to their incarceration. Hot Docs alum Sophie Compton (Another Body, 2023) and Daisy-May Hudson employ a collaborative, trauma-informed approach rooted in immense trust and care for each of the participants, offering support as they navigate the soon-to-be-demolished building, unearth memories and share personal stories that reveal the often unspoken traumas that underpin the imprisonment of women. Holloway foregrounds the profound healing that emerges through sisterhood as these women find strength in solidarity, reclaim their voices and stories, and transform pain into empowerment.
