In the town of No Name, Georgia, toothless grins abound. During the country’s 2012 election, eager dentists went on a tooth-pulling frenzy, yanking out rotten teeth after the campaigning president vowed to fund subsidized dental care to the nation’s most vulnerable citizens. When the incumbent party lost, however, and the dental plan was scrapped, hordes of Georgians were left without teeth, some with barely enough to chew their food. Eight years after the farcically labelled Smiling Georgia campaign, this film catches up with the citizens of No Name as they find themselves awash in a flood of new election promises during the 2020 campaign. What are the costs of the half-truths politicians tell? In a satiric and biting exploration of government mismanagement, director Luka Beradze documents the whims of political power and the defiance of those who hold the least of it.
