After overcoming a painful childhood in France, 35-year-old Hayat has become an expert sailor and ship’s captain in the Arctic. Never having known a mother’s love, she wonders who will ever love her and how she could ever love someone else as she navigates herself as far away from other human beings as possible. Living in an isolated village in Iceland and repairing boats for upcoming expeditions, she finds solace in the cold and blends into the barrenness of her frozen surroundings, the landscape a vivid symbol of her inaccessible emotional state. But after her sister gives birth, can Hayat course-correct and reconnect with her family? Will she be able to overcome her own trauma, improve communications with her relations, and break through their family’s cycle of detachment for the sake of her sister's newborn? In a subtle and compelling journey into the unknown, Hayat explores how to be loved and love...herself. Angie Driscoll
