Dania, a young writer raised in a strict Christian congregation on the Faroe Islands, moves to the capital and becomes romantically involved with Trygvi, a secular hip-hop artist. Fascinated by the unvarnished honesty and irreverent humour in his songs, Dania is inspired to write a collection of personal poems but worries that her family and society will ostracize her for confronting her religious upbringing. Skál is a film about the conflict between truth and faith and finds the ultimate visual representation for this in a puddle, where depending on how you look at it, you can see rocks hanging in mid-air…or not. Reality depends on perception. How you see the world and choose to live—in truth, with incessant existential questions and doubts, or by faith, trusting a text to answer those questions and doubts—is at the core of this creative couple's struggle. How will they choose to live and create, with questions or answers, acceptance or condemnation, in grey or black and white? Angie Driscoll
