Playwright Liza Jessie Peterson relives her experience performing The Peculiar Patriot at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, also known as the "Angola Plantation," America's largest prison plantation. An examination of her play's abrupt shutdown mid-performance and its powerful impact on inmates, this incendiary portrait proves that prison is a system for profit, not punishment, and mass incarceration is another form of slavery. Angie Driscoll
