In this ironic study of globalization, the European tastes of China's new upwardly mobile middle class have created a new direction in supply chains. Cameras first capture a massive block of raw white marble being excavated in a Greek quarry and shipped out on an ocean freighter to Quyang, "the Chinese capital of carving." It is honed into Hellenistic-style garden sculptures that adorn amusement parks made to look like scale replicas of Paris. A young pair of identical twin models, daughters of a Greek businessman, speak perfect Mandarin as they arrange permits for wealthy Chinese clients to Athens. They will accompany the elite on exclusive Sino-Greek trade conferences-cum-vacations. After taking in the sights, Beijing tourists buy up Parthenon fridge magnets made from the leftover grit of Quyang factory floors. Full-circle capital exchange is brought into stunning and absurd focus in this immersive study of China's market force. Myrocia Watamaniuk
