For husband and wife Maurice and Katia Krafft, there has always been a third, explosive member of their relationship. Entranced by the beauty and primal power of Earth's eruptions, the scientists spent their working lives making films, giving lectures and publishing books on volcanos. Although they may not be as well-known in North America as in France, Fire of Love's portrait of their fascinating story turns them into an unforgettable pair. Their daring field work on the sides of craters, calderas and volcanos—just a few feet away from burning lava—yielded important data and measurements of minerals and gases. Miranda July's melancholy narration accompanies archival interviews and beautifully restored footage shot by Maurice, painting an engrossing look at the duo's lifelong obsession. A eulogy and love letter like no other, Fire of Love does justice to the couple's singular legacy. Aisha Jamal
