Hot Docs is thrilled to celebrate the achievements of Hot Docs-Blue Ice Docs Fund alumni, who were recently honored with prestigious awards at the 2024 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and Cairo Film Connection.
Yara Costa's Looking for the Mermaid won the Producers Connection Award at IDFA 2024. Jurors Bianca Oana and Daan Vermeulen praised the film for its powerful message, stating, “The world is disappearing before our eyes. That is a strong statement in itself. But the winning project also brings forth the idea that cinema can help preserve dying worlds while at the same time enriching our imagination with new possibilities of being together and of making films.”
Ager Oueslati’s You Don’t Die Two Times received the post-production prize at Cairo Film Connection. The film follows a young Nigerian migrant as she recounts her own life’s journey–one fraught with danger and haunted by ghosts.
Director Asmaa Gamal's My Dream to Fly achieved notable success at Cairo Film Connection, winning the Red Star cash prize, Garage Development mentorship services worth $10,000 USD, and the Rawiat Prize consultation.
The Hot Docs-Blue Ice Docs Fund is a fund for filmmakers who live and work on the African continent. Applications are now open.
