Hot Docs Alumni Nominated for 2025 Canadian Screen Awards

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television has announced the nominees for the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards, and several Hot Docs-supported films and filmmakers have received recognition across major documentary categories.

We’re proud to celebrate the following nominees:

Best Feature Length Documentary

  • Disco's Revenge (D: Omar Majeed, Peter Mishara) – Hot Docs-Slaight Family Fund
  • Wilfred Buck (D: Lisa Jackson) – Hot Docs Ted Rogers Fund
  • Yintah (D: Jennifer Wickham, Brenda Michell, Michael Toledano) – Hot Docs Deal Maker

Best Cinematography in a Feature Length Documentary

Best Editing in a Feature Length Documentary

Several titles from the Hot Docs 2024 Official Selection are also among this year’s Canadian Screen Award nominees.

Okurimono (D: Laurence Lévesque) received four nominations: Best Feature Length Documentary, Best Cinematography in a Feature Length Documentary, Best Editing in a Feature Length Documentary, Best Original Music in a Feature Length Documentary, and Best Sound Design in a Feature Length Documentary.

A Mother Apart (D: Laurie Townshend) is nominated for Best Editing in a Feature Length Documentary.

Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story (D: Michael Mabbott, Lucah Rosenberg-Lee) is nominated for Best Original Music in a Feature Length Documentary.

An Unfinished Journey (D: Aeyliya Husain, Amie Williams) is nominated for the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program.

Born Hungry (D: Barry Avrich) is nominated in three categories: Best Writing, Documentary, Best Photography, Documentary or Factual, and Best Sound, Documentary or Factual.
