We're pleased to announce the appointment of Heidi Tao Yang as the organization’s new Managing Director, effective immediately. In this role, Ms. Yang will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of Hot Docs and driving its success—translating the organization’s vision into operational roles, overseeing its financial health, enhancing programming standards, expanding Hot Docs’ brand both nationally and internationally, and fostering stakeholder engagement.

Heidi Tao Yang brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in successfully spearheading strategic initiatives. In her previous role as Director of Funds & Labs, Ms. Yang directly oversaw the disbursement of over $4M in funding to filmmakers of diverse backgrounds. Over the past 18 months, she has executive produced 15 short films, including seven for the second series of Citizen Minutes—a Hot Docs-produced collection of short Canadian social impact docs, now streaming on Crave and CBC Gem—and eight for Roads to Regeneration—a series spotlighting individuals worldwide striving for a more sustainable, equitable, and hopeful life. Notably, Ms. Yang designed and developed the inaugural Hot Docs Incubator, a Netflix-supported program tailored for documentary filmmakers seeking growth and showcasing creative and market potential. Her dynamic leadership, strategic thinking and entrepreneurial mindset are sure to inspire the team and propel Hot Docs to its next chapter.
