Hot Docs aims to be a more diverse and inclusive space. Hot Docs’ Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) survey was created to measure and improve upon these efforts. The data collected provides an understanding of the demographic representation of individuals applying to Hot Docs programmes, included but not limited to market activities, pitching, funding applications and professional development opportunities.
The type of data collected was determined after consultation with individuals and organizations, in addition to recommendations made by Statistics Canada Framework and the Racial Equity and Media Collective’s 2021 Report.

Hot Docs acknowledges that the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives are an organic practice that evolve over time, adapting to social changes, new information on the screen sector and transformations in content creation practices. Hot Docs is committed to reviewing annually this JEDI practice, and to update its data collection policies as new recommendations are made to the screen sector.
