Lolita, a southern resident orca, was captured in the Pacific Ocean 53 years ago and spent the rest of her life performing at the Miami Seaquarium, in the smallest killer whale tank in North America.
After decades of failed attempts to return Lolita to her home, an unlikely partnership is struck between Indigenous matriarchs, a billionaire philanthropist, orca experts, and the aquarium's new owner. Together, they take on another phase in the herculean task of freeing the beloved mammal but, when Lolita falls ill under troubling circumstances, her advocates are faced with a painful question: is it too late to save her?
