When aspiring singers Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Deena (Beyoncé Knowles-Carter) and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose) are discovered by manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx), they rise from local talent shows to stardom as "The Dreams." But as fame grows, personal bonds fray—Curtis pushes Deena into the spotlight, sidelining Effie, revealing the harsh cost of success in the cutthroat industry.
