VENUES & PHYSICAL ACCESS
All screening venues are wheelchair accessible, with the exception of The Fox Theatre. Full accessibility details for each screening venue are available on our venues page.

VENUES DETAILS

SCREENINGS
Hot Docs is pleased to offer closed captions, open captions, and described sound for select screenings.

OC - Open Captioned Icon Open Captions: These screenings display special captions on screen during the film.

CC - Closed Captioned Icon Closed Captions: These screenings have special captions that can be viewed via a Captiview device. Equipment requests are facilitated at the venue box office, subject to availability.

DS - Described Sound Audio Description: These screenings have a special soundtrack that can be listened to on a device. Guests are encouraged to bring their own headphones. Equipment requests are facilitated at the venue box office, subject to availability.

Please note that you may be asked to leave a form of ID to ensure the safe return of the equipment.


HEARING ASSIST DEVICES
Available at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, Innis Town Hall, Scotiabank Theatre and TIFF Bell Lightbox, these are receivers with headphones transmit the film’s audio content, allowing patrons to adjust the volume to their need. Guests are encouraged to bring their own headphones. Equipment requests are facilitated at the venue box office, subject to availability.


ASL
For patrons accompanied by an ASL interpreter and in need of light accommodation at a screening, reserve seating and discrete lighting will be made available in a designated area upon 72 hours advance notice. This accommodation is for films not fully subtitled or offered with captioning.


SERVICE ANIMALS
Service animals are welcome in all areas of screening venues that are open to the public. For the information on designated animal relief areas refer to our Festival venues page.


PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKERS
A personal support worker may accompany you free of charge to all Hot Docs Festival screenings and events.


FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY

  • Free Daytime Screenings: Seniors (60+) and students with a valid ID can take advantage of free admission to films that start before 5:00 p.m. Tickets can be obtained at the screening’s venue box office on the day of the screening, subject to availability. Courtesy of CBC Docs.

ALLERGIES/CHEMICAL SENSITIVITIES
Your fellow patrons may have allergies and/or chemical sensitivities. Please be considerate by avoiding perfume, cologne and other scented products.


NOTICES OF TEMPORARY DISRUPTION
In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services for customers with disabilities, Hot Docs will notify customers promptly. This clearly posted notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and a description of alternative venues or services, if available.

The notice will be placed at the venues, as well as on our Festival venues page.


FEEDBACK PROCESS
Customers who wish to provide feedback contact us by phone at 416.637.3123, email at [email protected] or in person to venue staff. All feedback will be directed to the Director of Operations. Customers can expect to hear back within 48 hours. Complaints will be addressed according to our organization’s regular complaint management procedures.
