The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) and presenting sponsor TD Bank Group (TD) are pleased to announce filmmaker Karen Chapman (Village Keeper) as the featured guest for the last of the 2024 Black Excellence Speaker Series. Devoted to perspectives told by Black creatives in the screen-based industry, this series provides a platform for industry leaders to speak openly about experiences and inspire positive change for future artists. Moderated by CFC Executive Director maxine bailey, the free event will take place Thursday, December 5.
CFC Conversations: Black Excellence aims to profile and engage creatives from all areas of the industry including actors, directors, writers, producers, costume designers, and hair and makeup artists to speak on issues and realities that are front and centre. Following the success of her debut feature Village Keeper, which premiered at TIFF 2024, Karen Chapman will take the stage for an insightful conversation, sharing her experience working in Canada's film and television industry. Past guests have included award-winning costume designer Antoinette Messam, acclaimed actress Amanda Brugel and prolific filmmaker Clement Virgo.
