Hot Docs is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing and celebrating the art of documentary and to creating production opportunities for documentary filmmakers.

Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, North America’s largest documentary festival, conference and market, will present its 30th anniversary edition from April 27 to May 7, 2023.

Year round, Hot Docs supports the Canadian and international industry with professional development programs and a multi-million-dollar production fund portfolio, and fosters education through documentaries with its popular free program Docs For Schools.

Hot Docs also owns and programs the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, a century-old landmark located in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood and the world’s first and largest documentary cinema.  While closed during the current pandemic, Hot Docs is offering audiences across Canada access to first-run documentaries and curated programming and events on its Hot Docs at Home streaming service.

Additionally, Hot Docs is the event organizer for the annual World Congress of Science and Factual Producers, a member-run conference for science and factual producers, broadcasters and content providers from around the world.

COMPENSATION: $865/week

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Online Content Coordinator will assist with creating, editing and publishing content on hotdocs.ca for the 2023 Hot Docs Festival, as well as issuing eBulletins and surveys. They will work closely with Communications staff and other departments to meet all crucial deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the communications team to draft and edit copy for online use
  • Assist with updating and creating webpages on hotdocs.ca, including the festival film schedule
  • Prepare materials for the online film schedule
  • Assist with preparing the Hot Docs at Home streaming platform the Festival
  • Coordinate and deploy all Festival surveys and compile the results
  • Work with the communications team to create and issue eBulletins to various audiences
  • Assist with the collection and distribution of photographs taken by the Festival photographers
  • Assist with departmental administrative and reporting activities 
  • Other general tasks include assisting the senior communications manager as needed, fielding questions and phone calls, and responding to daily tasks as they arise.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-2 years experience in coordinating communications initiatives
  • Exceptional communication skills with a keen grasp of grammar and spelling
  • Superior attention to detail, organization and panning skills
  • Ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines
  • Experience copywriting and editing for brands/organizations is an asset
  • Experience with databases, website CMS and email marketing tools is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
