Hot Docs, North America’s leading documentary festival, conference and market, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing and celebrating the art of documentary and to creating production opportunities for documentary filmmakers. Hot Docs will present its 32nd annual edition from April 24 to May 4, 2025, in cinemas across Toronto.

Hot Docs owns and programs the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, a century-old landmark located in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood and the world’s first and largest documentary cinema.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Social Media Coordinator will support social media management to promote the 2025 Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival, April 25–May 5, 2025. Working with the Festival’s marketing team, you will lead the creation of social media assets for promotions, Festival programs and selection titles, and partners. Actively monitoring comments and mentions and engaging with users, you will help Festival stakeholders—including audiences, filmmakers and industry delegates—feel welcome, engaged and supported leading up to and during the Festival. During the festival, you will be part of the team covering events and major screenings live on social media. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Planning and Creation:

  • Develop a tailored social media marketing plan aligned with Hot Docs Festival's branding;
  • Develop a social media content calendar to ensure timely and consistent postings;
  • Create and publish digital assets and posts tailored for individual social media platforms;
  • Follow templates and guidelines to ensure consistent branding across platforms;
  • Provide on-site, live coverage of key events for social media.

Audience Engagement:

  • Monitor and engage with audiences across social media platforms by providing customer services and fostering meaningful interactions;
  • Implement protocols for handling negative feedback, crises, or unexpected challenges on social media platforms with guidance from Social Media & Marketing Manager;
  • Monitor partners’ engagement with the Festival on social media.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adopt a flexible approach to workplace location and hours (including occasional evenings and weekends) contingent on the operating needs of the organization;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Hot Docs’ communities and stakeholders, including volunteers, unionized and contracted staff, filmmakers, media, and funders;
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in content creation, social media management, or digital marketing;
  • Proven experience in audience engagement and content planning;
  • Proficiency in digital content creation tools, such as Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media management tools, including Hootsuite;
  • Deep understanding of social media trends, best practices and platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines by using a project management platform like Asana;
  • Experience in the film, arts, festivals, or cultural sector as an asset;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for crafting engaging content;
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and community leaders;
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends to cover live events and screening during the Festival.
