At a Red Cross school in Denmark, the children of refugees await the results of their families’ pleas for asylum. Amid the vivid stories of displacement and survival, we follow the education of Megomed, a shy, 10-year-old boy from Chechnya. As Megomed and his classmates learn a new language, make new friends and adjust to the customs of an unfamiliar country, his family’s resettlement case enters its precarious final stages. After wowing Hot Docs audiences with last year’s gripping thriller The Arms Drop, director Andreas Koefoed returns with one of his most topical and visually striking films to date, a work of incredible artistry and compassion. The winner of the Mid-Length Competition Award at the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam, At Home in the World offers a stunning new perspective on the global refugee crisis.
